It’s easy to get discouraged. Not a single person is above getting discouraged and having a bad day. It’s all about how you react and choose to take control of that moment with a positive mindset. This is often something we learn over time through different experiences we have. When I was a teacher I would try to communicate the importance of reacting accordingly to situations to avoid a negative domino affect, but honestly, I always felt like I fell short of getting my point across. I was raised to have a positive mindset and all I wanted to be able to do was communicate the power of what that holds to others. After reading the book “The Alter Ego” by Todd Herman I had a rush of motivation to write a poem that would break down his message. Todd Herman is an author, entrepreneur, coach, and mentor, and according to his website, he states,
“I know the mental performance game better than anyone. My execution and mindset strategies and systems are used by businesses, entrepreneurs, entertainers, athletes and do hard things.”
( I highly recommend his book and reading the poem below) ;)
“The Possibilities That Ensue”
The possibilities that ensue
if you embraced the real you and
believed in what you were meant to do.
Imagine.
This is where most people get stuck,
disappointment
cuts.
I can’t shield anyone from pain, but
I can give you a secret that may sound insane.
Just bear with me as my thoughts form into a
coherent train.
Your problems will forgo
With the use of an alter ego.
Now Todd Herman is the real expert in this
he helped me turn my “I might” or
“I did all right” into
“I know I’m right” and
“I will try again and not lose sight.”
Let me backtrack and remind you that
before all of the self-doubt,
we were kids willing to take any route.
Take love as a perfect example.
The games we play for a thrill of the gamble.
My mom always said love is simple; it is our
egos that get in the way.
Egos are what we portray, to protect our heart
from what others say.
We attach our ego to ourselves,
then allow others’ words to influence our
mental health.
Why do we do this?
If that ego is damaged
we sometimes don’t know how to manage.
So by embracing our inner strength,
creating an identity that puts our fears at a
far away length
that alter ego,
now is our own hero.
An unstoppable force
that creates good with no remorse,
No fear of looking too weak,
allowing you to accomplish what you really
seek.
Please, don’t confuse
the alter ego as your muse.
It’s when confidence and bravery take form
and give you the power to push past your norm.
Ask yourself
Who do you want to portray?
It was Sasha fierce for Beyoncé.
Go into the world to inspire
rather than to simply be admired.
The alter ego harnesses the real you,
and allows your talents to shine through.
Just think of the possibilities that could
ensue
if you embraced the real you,
and believed in what you were meant to do.
